| MoAD in the Middle Curriculum Project
MoAD in the Middle offers content-rich curriculum that tells the story of the African Diaspora in the form of lesson plans that focus on social studies, geography, history, and the arts. With a multidisciplinary approach, the curriculum highlights the arts and humanities within a cultural, social, political and historical framework. The curriculum is a tool that educators can use to teach their middle and high school students in ways that fulfill content standards adopted by the California Department of Education. The complex history of African and of African descendant peoples is presented in the curriculum in the context of four main themes: Origins, Movement, Adaptation, and Transformation. The broad goals of the project are to educate and expend knowledge; support students as they sharpen their academic skills; and deepen student’s appreciation of the history of the African Diaspora from historical to modern times.
