Join Litquake and the Museum of the African Diaspora for a discussion of humanitarianism, trans-national identity, and the role of race and culture in the creation of self in Chris Abani’s recent works—a detective novel set in Las Vegas with a global sweep featuring conjoined twins as the primary suspects, and a memoir that interrogates his “face” and the experiences that have shaped it.
Chris Abani is an acclaimed author. His most recent novel is The Secret History of Las Vegas. He also recently published the brief memoir The Face: Cartography of the Void. He is known as an international voice on humanitarianism, art, ethics, and our shared political responsibility.
Born in Nigeria, he is currently a Board of Trustees Professor of English at Northwestern University. He lives in Chicago.
Sarah Ladipo Manyika was raised in Nigeria and her writing includes essays, academic papers, reviews and short stories. Her first novel is In Dependence (Legend Press, London; Cassava Republic Press, Abuja). She teaches literature at San Francisco State University.
