Cornelius Moore, Co-Director of California Newsreel and curator of the series, will introduce and lead an audience discussion following each screening.

‍EL BENNY (Jorge Luis Sánchez, 2006, 122 minutes) ‍

A fictionalized movie based on the life of legendary singer Benny Moré, widely considered the best singer of Cuban popular music including of the son muntuno, mambo, guaracha and bolero genres. The film features new versions of his songs performed by Chucho Valdés and Juan Formell. Director Jorge Luis Sanchez is a descendant of Benny Moré.‍
