About

Enjoy Free Admission to our exhibitions, The Grace Jones Project and Dandy Lion: (Re)Articulating Black Masculine Identity, as MoAD joins the Contemporary Jewish Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the California Historical Society for Art, Drink, & Be Merry! Third Thursdays in Yerba Buena.

Join us at 6:30pm in the MoAD Salon for a screening of the documentary BLACK DANDY – Political Beauty (54 minutes, 2015, Laurent Lunetti and Ariel Wizman) which examines some of the historical and resistance based origins of Black male style and its roots in African cultures. It extends from the American South, to New York, among Black immigrants in Europe, the Congolese sapeurs and South African townships. Dandy Lion’s curator Shantrelle Lewis is interviewed in the film as are several of the artists in the exhibit.

Be sure to pick up a sticker at MoAD for special Third Thursday all-night happy hours at participating bars and restaurants. The third Thursday of each month in downtown San Francisco’s Yerba Buena neighborhood will be a monthly outing full of arts, food, and drink! Wander the blocks around Yerba Buena Gardens to soak in art and music.
