About

The Lorraine Hansberry Theatre and MoAD present a reading of Craigslisted, a play by Sharai Bohannon.

Craigslisted is centered around a young woman who is trying to put herself through college without any financial support. Funding an education is a struggle that most millennials face as the cost of education and living expenses continue to rise. As multiple studies show, the majority of students are facing an extremely high amount of student debt for their efforts, which many times does not correlate with the average salary received after graduation.

The play also explores what a large and dangerous part social media has taken in our lives and critiques the amount of time we spend looking at our electronic devices instead of interacting with those around us. Throughout the play, major themes of acceptance, friendship, women in education and perseverance are also explored.

Sharai Bohannon is currently working on her MFA in Playwriting at Texas Tech University. A handful of her one-acts have been produced as part of the Richard Herman Blackbox Program at University of Central Missouri, Late Night at the Lantern program at The Lanter Theatre in Conway, Arkansas, Bishop Arts Theatre Center in Dallas, Texas, and at Texas Tech University.

Her first full-length script, Craigslisted, was selected to be part of Texas Tech University's School of Theatre and Dance's WildWind Performance Lab 2015 before premiering in TTU's Lab current lab season. Bohannon has been writing in various capacities since she was old enough to hold a pencil.

The Lorraine Hansberry Theatre at MoAD is a collaboration that connects theater and the visual arts, bringing both audiences together, making each art form more accessible and relevant to both constituencies and providing context across art forms. Each presentation will be followed by an audience discussion.
