| November 26, 2005 - March 12, 2006 The 39 works in this exhibit will present a unique collection of the art of the African Diaspora, featuring photographs, paintings, mixed media, video and new genre work. Linkages and Themes will establish MoAD’s course for future thematic explorations in contemporary art from the African Diaspora. Selections for Linkages and Themes illustrate the four themes that define MoAD: Origin, Movement, Transformation, and Adaptation. Linkages and Themes is the first time that works from the Norton Family Contemporary Art Collections have been presented in their own exhibition. Artists in the exhibition include iona rozeal brown, Hew Locke, Willie Cole, Glenn Ligon, Malick Sidibe, Kerry James Marshall, Belkis Ayon, Alison Saar, Yinka Shonibare, David Hammons, Kara Walker, Chris Ofili, Fred Wilson, Gary Simmons, Isaac Julien, Carrie Mae Weems, Nzuji De Magalhaes, Lamar Peterson, Mark S. Bradford, Ana Mendieta, Albert Chong, and Lorna Simpson. This exhibition adds to MoAD’s identity in its dedication to exhibiting cutting-edge contemporary art from the African Diaspora. A full-color exhibition catalogue accompanies the exhibition with contributions by Dr. Lizzetta LeFalle-Collins and Kris Kuramitsu, Curator and Director of Programs for the Norton Family Foundation. Linkages and Themes is sponsored by a generous grant from PG&E. | ||||||||||||||
