Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) Takes Root

in the San Francisco Bay Area Cultural Community

Celebrates First Anniversary with Gala: Diaspora Carnaval

San Francisco, CA – Save The Date – Saturday, March 10, 2007 – for the Museum of the African Diaspora’s Diaspora Carnaval: Celebrating Across Cultures, an elegant evening of culinary delights, global entertainment and fun.  MoAD’s first annual gala, to be held at the Rotunda at San Francisco City Hall, promises to be a spectacular event.

One of the many highlights of this year’s event will be the unveiling and presentation of the prestigious Diaspora Ambassador Awards. “These awards recognize citizens of our local and global community who have made significant positive contributions to the Diaspora. Our gala guests are sure to be inspired by their accomplishments, passion and spirit,” says V. Denise Bradley, MoAD’s Executive Director.

MoAD, a new international museum based in San Francisco, California, is the only major museum of its kind.  Open only a year, MoAD has already hosted more than 60,000 visitors from around the world. The mission of MoAD is to connect all people through the art, culture and history of the African Diaspora, to promote the universal connection of humankind to Africa, and to explore the impact that people of African descent have had on contemporary life the world over.  “The Diaspora Carnaval will bring the international spirit of carnival to San Francisco’s historic City Hall.  It will be a lively and exciting evening, not to be missed,” says Gala chairperson Jewelle Taylor-Gibbs, PhD.

Proceeds from the Gala will help MoAD continue to serve local, national and international audiences with world class exhibitions and support its educational and public programs.
