| New at MoAD - Carrie Mae Weems: The Louisiana Project |
Carrie Mae Weems - The Louisiana Project is an installation incorporating still photography, narrative, and video projection. Weems draws inspiration from New Orleans' Carnival rituals and the meanings of masking and masquerade. Opening Night Reception - July 27, 5:30p - 9:00p. Includes the music of the Marcus Shelby Jazz Trio.

| Heritage Center Re-opens July 27 |
The Heritage Center is a drop-in education facility on the third floor of the museum where visitors can explore the African Diaspora further. Volunteers assist visitors at computer stations before or after viewing museum exhibitions. The Heritage Center extends the visitor experience by offering further exploration of MoAD's four core themes—Origins, Movement, Adaptation and Transformation, with more extensive information about museum exhibitions, website links and interviews.
Hours: 1-4pm weekdays when the museum is open.

| I've Known Rivers: A Story Salon on Hurricane Katrina |
In recognition of the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the Museum of the African Diaspora presents stories from its oral history and narrative archive project, I've Known Rivers (IKR). IKR will publish its second volume of stories on August 21, 2006 online at www.iveknownrivers.org.
IKR Salon: Join us to hear first-hand accounts about life in New Orleans, before and after Hurricane Katrina. Featuring spoken word poetry, music, and contributions by IKR Storytellers. Sunday, August 27, 2006. For more information, please call MoAD.

| In Conversation with Chris Gardner |
   
The Museum of the African Diaspora launched a new Public Program on Sunday, June 11 – The MoAD “Sunday Salon” series -- with its first “In Conversation” event with Chris Gardner. Mr. Gardner was in conversation with ABC 20/20 Producer Lynn Redmond and co-author Mim Eichler Rivas about his new autobiography, The Pursuit of Happyness.” The event was co-sponsored by the San Francisco Film Commission and catered gratis by the St. Regis Hotel. The event was opened by the Honorable Willie Brown and was filmed and is now available for viewing on www.fora.tv. More...

Share MoAD with visitors of all ages in the MoAD Guide Program. Guides learn about the Museum’s unique immersive exhibitions, featured exhibitions and the Heritage Center in quarterly trainings. Must be able to commit 2 hours a month plus attend all exhibition trainings. To apply, email volunteer@moadsf.org.
