| New at MoAD - Painting Ethiopia and Beaded Blessings |
Painting Ethiopia: The Life and Work of Adamu Tesfaw
At the age of 70, Ethiopian artist Qes Adamu Tesfaw is regarded by many as Ethiopia’s finest living artist, whose striking narrative depictions offer vignettes of the richness and variety of religious and secular life in Ethiopia, as well as scenes of important historical events that have given the country its identity. Grounded in the Ethiopian Orthodox tradition, his paintings are conceptually remarkable and aesthetically stunning. Opens October 20.

| Target Sponsors Community Day at MoAD |
MoAD received a $50,000 grant from Target Corp. for sponsorship of two Community Days. The sponsorship allows the Museum to offer two days of free admission that include hands-on activities and performances for children of all ages.
The first Target Community Day at the MoAD, October 21, 2006 will highlight MoAD’s “Music from the Diaspora,” an interactive core exhibition. All hands-on activities and performances are free and admission to the Museum is free. Local artists and musicians will lead activities in which children and adults can make musical instruments, listen to storytellers and drum performances, as well as make drawings with musical themes. MoAD is open from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; the performances and activities will start at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m.
“Thanks to Target’s generous contribution, we can make MoAD more accessible to more Bay Area families by providing free admission at two community days. We want children and adults to recognize MoAD as a place to learn about the African Diaspora and Target Community Day is an excellent opportunity to be able to do that for the entire community,” said MoAD Executive Director Denise Bradley.
