Family Programming: Transparency Imagery

Saturday, November 18

Using images from Painting Ethiopia: The Life and Work[s] of Qes Adamu Tesfaw, participants will create their own transparent works of art. These art pieces resemble stained glass windows and can be hung in front of a lamp or window to allow light to pass through.  Featured artist: Abnet Asnake. More>

At the age of 70, Ethiopian artist Qes Adamu Tesfaw is regarded by many as Ethiopia’s finest living artist, whose striking narrative depictions offer vignettes of the richness and variety of religious and secular life in Ethiopia, as well as scenes of important historical events that have given the country its identity. Beaded Blessings

Beaded Prayers Project: Beaded Blessings

Thru January 15

The exhibition is comprised of over 4,000 beaded prayers inspired by African amulet traditions. Each contributed piece is a sealed beaded packet containing the written wishes, hopes, dreams and prayers sent in from participants, mainly women, from all over the nation and other countries. More>

Kickin' It with Joyce Scott

San Francisco Museum of Craft+Design

This 30-year retrospective includes sculpture, jewelry, prints and textiles, as well as videos and photographs of the artist’s performance and installation work. Ms. Scott’s exuberant, beaded sculptural forms and neckpieces are beautiful and provocative, while offering her own distinctive commentary on social issues. More>

A rare opportunity to see this remarkable artist expand the boundaries of craft! Through music and visuals Joyce Scott will demonstrate how growing up in an exceptionally creative environment, her African-American roots, her studies and international travels have influenced her very powerful work. Become a Museum Guide

Share MoAD with visitors of all ages in the MoAD Guide Program. Guides learn about the Museum’s unique immersive exhibitions, featured exhibitions and the Heritage Center in quarterly trainings. Must be able to commit 2 hours a month plus attend all exhibition trainings. To apply, email volunteer@moadsf.org.
