| The Docent Program at the Museum of African Diaspora (MoAD) features an in-depth training of contemporary art from artists around the globe. In addition, training for public touring and speaking are provided so as to create an enriching atmosphere that is both informative and enjoyable for visitors. The role of the docent is to serve as an interpreter of the museum’s exhibitions, helping the visitor to leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the artwork. In addition, docents assist in preserving the artwork by providing auxiliary security in exhibition areas. Requirements to be a docent are: • A sincere and genuine interest in people of all ages. • A love for and excitement about learning and teaching. • Attention to detail and accuracy. • An attitude of tolerance and respect for all people’s points of view. • Commitment of two years. • There are eight (8) classes per year (16 total) that in which attendance is mandatory. The docent position is unpaid however there are many benefits to being a docent: Free Individual Membership to MoAD. Benefits of membership are: - Each membership card admits you and a guest. - Free admission to exhibit openings. - Reduced admission to collaborative events and presentations. - Special website access to exhibits and programs. - 10% discount at MoAD store.
