Followed by Q&A with filmaker. Proceeded by Bling: Consequences and Repercussions tackles the issues behind Hip Hop's obsession with diamonds and the continued illegal diamond trade in Africa. Bling looks to further educate the Hip Hop generation about the murder and carnage caused by the world's greed for diamond. $8 General; $6 for MoAD members, Seniors and Students. Target Community Day at MoADSaturday October 21, 200610:00 am - 4:00 pmTarget Community Day at the Museum of the African Diaspora is a day full of hands-on activities and performances for children of all ages that highlights MoAD’s Music from the Diaspora, an interactive core exhibition. All activities and performances are free and admission to the Museum is free. Local artists and musicians will lead activities in which children and adults can make musical instruments, listen to storytellers and drum performances, as well as make drawings with musical themes. The Beaded Prayers ProjectSaturday October 28, 20061:00 pm - 2:00 pm Lecture2:30 pm - 4:00 pm WorkshopDiscover amulet traditions from the African Diaspora and throughout world cultures in a slide lecture by Sonya Clark, director of The Beaded Prayers Project. The slide lecture includes a look at accumulative community art projects and cultural traditions as well as the discussion of the importance of amulets and beadwork, often created by women in communities. The hands-on workshop gives instruction on ways to make beaded prayers using beading techniques according to the level of the participants. Participants will learn basic beading techniques and have the opportunity to create beaded prayers.
