ABOUT

Thank you for your interest in a MoAD guided tour. The month of February is our most popular month for tours and unfortunately, we are completely booked. Beginning in March, we are pausing our tour program so we can develop even better offerings that serve the diverse needs of our audiences. Please check the MoAD Group Tours page frequently for updates on when we resume tour bookings.

We offer In-Person and Virtual Tours tailored to your interests, each lasting around 50 minutes. For in-person tours, we can accommodate groups of a minimum of 10 people and a maximum of 25. Please note that due to high demand, we may not be able to accommodate all requests. Our talented and dedicated guides and docents make our tours possible.

IN-PERSON GUIDED TOUR

Available on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday only

In-person non-school group tour prices

(Minimum of 10 attendees/Maximum of 25 attendees)

  • Senior group (65+): $6per person
  • Non-profit group (18 – 64): $12 per person
  • For-profit group: $22 per person

Tour reservation guidelines

  • For non-profit and senior groups, $25deposit, payable by credit or debit card, is required to schedule a tour. $180 deposit is required for for-profit groups.
  • Tours must be scheduled at least 7 days in advance.
  • Cancellations require 48 hours notice.
  • Deposits paid for a canceled tour will be credited toward a future visit.
  • If a cancellation or reschedule is not made 48 hours in advance, the deposit will be forfeited.

VIRTUAL TOUR

Available on Mondays and Tuesdays only

Choose from the following options:

  • Current Exhibition Artists & Artwork
  • The Art and Life of William H. Johnson (1901- 1970)*
    *William H. Johnson was an African American painter who was born in Florence, South Carolina, in 1901. He was passionate about art from a young age. Johnson's paintings, which often depicted scenes of everyday life in African American communities, are celebrated for their vivid colors and distinctive style. He is one of the most important American artists of the 20th century. William H. Johnson passed away in 1970, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire and influence artists to this day.

Virtual non-school group tour prices

  • Senior group (65+): $100per group
  • Non-profit group: $275 per group
  • For-profit group: $400 per group for up to 30 people and $5 per person thereafter

Sample virtual tour agenda

  • Introduction (5-7 minutes)
  • Opening activity (5 minutes)
  • Guided viewing of three or four works (20 minutes)
  • Second activity (3 minutes)
  • Discussion of two or three selected works from the exhibition (15 minutes)
  • Q&A and closing (7-10 minutes)

THINGS TO KNOW

Prepare for Your In-Person Visit

  • Wait for email confirmation before making transportation arrangements.
  • MoAD does not have group lunch facilities.
  • Visit MoAD beforehand to get familiar with the space and art or check out online resources.
  • Payment is required before the tour and tickets are non-refundable.
  • Unused funds will be donated to the museum.

The Day if Your In-Person Visit

  • Arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled tour.
  • The group leader should check in at the front desk.
  • Review our Museum Policies and MoAD Health and Safety Plan with your group.

We ask that you respect the following guidelines

  • No food, drinks, or gum in the museum to protect the artwork.
  • Photography without flash is allowed, unless otherwise noted.
  • You may draw or sketch in the galleries with a pencil without eraser.
  • Do not touch artwork or exhibition objects unless invited by a guide.
  • Keep at least 18 inches away from exhibition pieces when barriers are not visible.
  • Speak quietly to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.

 

During your visit, a member of the MoAD security team may remind you of these rules. Your cooperation will help make the museum a safe, welcoming space, and preserve the art for others to enjoy.
