This event is sold out. Thank you.

Known for her bejeweled, sumptuous paintings and stylized photographs of women, Portraits and Other Likenesses from SFMOMA exhibiting artist Mickalene Thomas joins art historian and theorist Derek Conrad Murray for a lively discussion inside her special commission for the show, Between Ourselves Again (2015). A 1970s styled living room occupies the MoAD Salon space, including Thomas’ Sista Sista Lady Blue (2007-08, and in SFMOMA’s collection) and Lovely Six Foota (2007). These images twin two additional photographs lent by the artist: Remember Me and Afro Goddess Ex Lover’s Friend (both 2006).

Between Ourselves Again creates an immersive environment of figures exchanging knowing looks and certain glances, while the viewer engages the many histories and memories these muses evoke.

Doors open at 6pm, when you can join us for a pre-program reception in the first floor lobby.
