About

Join us for a screening of summer mason’s latest film, Gemini. After the screening, summer mason will be in conversation with writer and producer, Ruth Gebreyesus. Refreshments will be provided.

Presented as an immersive installation, LA-born filmmaker summer mason’s short essay film Gemini explores personal narratives through familial representations. Navigating the balancing act of femininity and masculinity, this exhibition interrogates the dissonances and continuities of one’s perception of themselves and the authentic self. Through Gemini, mason parallels the negotiated black masculinity of these cultural personas with their own reflection on the process of understanding their own queer identity as shaped by important figures in their life.

summer mason is a UC Berkeley ’17 Film and Media graduate and is the creative director of ONX, a Black creative incubator and printed publication. mason has previously been featured on East Bay Express, KQED and AFROPUNK.
