Taking a moment to reflect upon their careers and art practices, join us for a conversation with Muzae Sesay and Basil Kincaid. This talk, moderated by MoAD's Director of Exhibitions and Curatorial Affairs, Emily Kuhlmann, will take a look at both artists' approach to their current practices in the studio and in communities.

After the opening of their concurrent exhibitions at pt. 2 Gallery in the East Bay, this conversation will explore, Shamans Death a solo exhibition by Basil Kincaid featuring a new series of tapestry sculptures, drawings, and an installation element, and SKELETONS, a new series of paintings by the Oakland based artist Muzae Sesay.

This event will also be a moment of recognition and discussion of Sesay's mural, I Love the Moon We Share commissioned in 2018 by Museum of the African Diaspora and St. Vincent de Paul.

Basil Kincaid, b. 1986 is a Post Disciplinary artist from St. Louis Missouri. Kincaid studied Drawing and Painting at Colorado College, graduating in 2010. Kincaid has exhibited work in New York, Miami, Boston, San Francisco, and with Kavi Gupta Gallery in Chicago. Kincaid has exhibited work internationally in Malmö Sweden, Taipei Taiwan, Montpellier France, And Accra Ghana. Kincaid also has work in the JP Morgan Permanent art Collection. Upcoming Kincaid will debut their first museum performance at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation in St. Louis MO. Kincaid's work focuses primarily on Legacy, Heritage, Reclamation, Healing, Labor, and Self Mastery

Muzae Sesay is an Oakland-based visual artist and painter, originally from Southern California. He plays with skewed perspectives and abstractions of planes. In addition, he is a founding member of the Black Mail Artist collective.
