Join us as we explore the art of storytelling in the African Diaspora. Three different practitioners will share their unique culture of storytelling, featuring Afro-Caribbean traditional dance, West African weaving tradition, and Gullah Geechee folktales. The program will include a discussion and demonstration of each form.

Seycon Nadia is a performer, choreographer, and dance teacher. Her genres include ballet, modern, liturgical, and she specializes in traditional West African dance, and Caribbean folklore. Of Jamaican, and Liberian heritage, Seycon preserves her cultures through song and dance.

Aunt Pearlie Sue is the creation of Anita Singleton-Prather, a native of the Sea Islands of Beaufort, South Carolina. Based on her grandmother, Aunt Pearlie Sue's character has entertained audiences with Gullah-flavored folktales for over 20 years from the schoolhouse to the White House.

Kwasi Asare is a Master Weaver of exciting and exquisite kente cloth, one of the great cultural traditions of Ghana. Mr. Asare has held exhibitions around Ghana and has traveled often to other countries. Mr. Asare welcomes opportunities to share the Ashanti kente weaving tradition to international audiences.

Through demonstrations, exhibitions, interactive workshops, and hands-on weaving on the traditional and small hand looms, adults and children alike will gain a greater appreciation for and help to keep alive this rich cultural history.
