Image: Little Gestures by Christopher Cozier

Join us for film screening and discussion of UNCOMFORTABLE: THE ART OF CHRISTOPHER COZIER, a journey through the work and ideas of Trinidad-based artist and cultural critic Christopher Cozier, one of the leading contemporary artists in the Caribbean. It presents Cozier's witty and incisive drawings, installations and videos in the context of post-independence Trinidad with its oil-rich economy, complicated ethnic politics, and vibrant cultural forms.

The screening will be introduced by Director Richard Fung, and followed by a discussion with Fung and Cozier (via Skype from Trinidad). Christopher Cozier is a featured artist in our current exhibition Where Is Here.

Richard Fung is a Trinidad-born video artist, writer, and educator who currently lives and works in Toronto. His research and film work is focused on recovering the under-studied narratives of migration and post-colonial history; the politics of HIV/AIDS; foodways; and Asian cultural and sexual identities.  Fung’s award-winning documentaries include My Mother’s Place (1990), an homage to his Chinese-Trinidadian mother; Uncomfortable: The Art of Christopher Cozier (2005); and Dal Puri Diaspora (2012), a loving look at the Indian flat bread eaten in Asia, Africa, and in the Americas.
