About

Join Young Black Femmes in San Francisco at the Museum of the African Diaspora for an evening of reflection, conversation, and connection.

Inspired by the museum’s exhibitions, participants will engage in guided meditation, reflection, and meaningful dialogue. Through interactive activities and small group conversations, attendees will explore themes that will be introduced during the event and engage with reflection questions designed to spark connection and insight.

Whether you are new to San Francisco or have called the Bay Area home for years, this experience offers an opportunity to slow down, connect with other Black femmes, and leave with new relationships and a deeper sense of belonging.

This experience is curated specifically for Black women and femmes.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Young Black Femmes in San Francisco (YBF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing social isolation and fostering belonging among young Black femmes in San Francisco. Through intentional community building, healing centered experiences, and meaningful partnerships, YBF creates spaces where Black femmes can build authentic relationships, strengthen their sense of belonging, and invest in one another. YBF believes that thriving communities are built through consistent opportunities to connect, reflect, heal, and grow together.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

DeJanelle Bovell is a daughter, sister, partner, and Executive Director of Young Black Femmes in San Francisco. Inspired by her own search for community after moving to San Francisco, she co-founded YBF to create intentional spaces where young Black femmes can build meaningful relationships, reconnect with themselves, and cultivate a lasting sense of belonging.

Outside of her work, DeJanelle enjoys traveling, spending time with loved ones, discovering new teashops and restaurants, and appreciating alliteration.

Jacqueline Cosmo is an immigrant, partner, sister, daughter, and dreamer — and the Vice President of Young Black Femmes in San Francisco. Originally from Brazil, she has called the Bay Area home for the past seven years. Seeking community and Black representation, she found both at YBF and stepped up to serve alongside DeJanelle. Together they design reflective, meaningful events that foster connection. Outside of her work, Jacqueline enjoys traveling, biking around the Bay, and meeting people who share similar life values.

This program is made possible by the generous support of Kaiser Permanente and is presented in conjunction with Downtown First Thursdays. Check out the street party on Second Street between Market & Howard!
