About
Why We Can and Must End Incarceration with Zachary Norris
Fifty years ago, the launch of the “war on drugs” began and today we live with the effects of that failed war: mass incarceration, economic inequality, and communities that are less safe. Finally, there is a growing consensus around the need to fundamentally shift the direction of the criminal justice system. Yet greater effort will be needed to turn tragedy into change. Zachary will engage the audience in a discussion of, why we must end mass incarceration, and how to get there.
Zachary Norris is the Executive Director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and a former director of their Books Not Bars campaign. Prior to rejoining the organization, Zachary founded and co-directed Justice for Families, a national alliance of family-driven organizations working to end our nation’s youth incarceration epidemic.
