About

Join Demetri Broxton, Senior Director of Education at MoAD for a workshop in tessallation (tile) drawing. Tessellation involves creating a shape and then repeating it over and over without gaps or overlaps. The process was made famous by the Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher, but is also commonly found in Dutch wax print fabric patterns.

NOTE: You do not have to possess any artistic skills to participate in this workshop!

For the workshop you will need:

  • A pencil;
  • A sheet of plain printer paper (8.5” x 11” or larger);
  • Scissors;
  • A ruler or other straight edge;
  • Tape (any kind)
  • One of the following:
  • A Post-it note, or
  • An envelope (from junk mail), or
  • A note card

Optional materials:

  • A black marker (Sharpie), colored pencils or markers, crayons
