Join us for an evening of conversation about Sarah Ladipo Manyika's delightful novel Like a Mule Bringing Ice Cream to the Sun, comprised of memorable characters, the celebration of life's sweet indulgences, and thoughtful examination of aging, all with witty and elegant prose. Shortlisted for the 2016 Goldsmith's Prize, Like a Mule Bringing Ice Cream to the Sun expands the canon of contemporary African literature.

Sarah Ladipo Manyika was raised in Nigeria and has lived in Kenya, France, and England. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.

Her writing includes essays, academic papers, reviews and short stories. Her first novel, In Dependence, was published by Legend Press, London, Cassava Republic Press, Abuja, and Weaver Press, Harare.

Sarah sits on the boards of Hedgebrook and San Francisco's Museum of the African Diaspora. She is a Patron of the Etisalat Prize for Literature and host to OZY’s video series “Write.”

As a businessman, Carlos built Achieva College Prep Services into one of the nation's largest college prep companies before selling it to the Washington Post/Kaplan. He also worked as the Global Head of Education Investment Banking for Goldman Sachs and as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. Carlos grew up in Miami and holds an A.B. in Government from Harvard University and a J.D. from Stanford Law School.
