John Santos, five-time grammy nominated Bay Area musician, producer and historian will offer his acclaimed four-week lecture series entitled The Rhythmic Roots of Afro-Latin Music throughout April, featuring selections of Santos’ legendary collection of audio and video recordings. Each session includes a demonstration of rhythm practices and hands-on instruction for any attending teachers to be able to teach in a classroom setting, accompanied by the social and cultural history of the music and rhythm.The four, two-hour sessions will cover these themes in the following order: Cuba Ritmática 1 – Bembé, Makuta, & PaloCuba Ritmática 2 – Yambú, Danzón, & SonPuerto Rico Ritmático – Bomba & PlenaBrasil Ritmático – Samba & Baiao
