About
Happy Hour | Panel | ArtAfter Party (starts @ 9pm): Somar Bar, 1727 Telegraph Ave., Oakland
Popular culture has been producing the same images and ideas of blackness for many years. New platforms, channels, technology and access to resources have made it possible for black creatives left out of traditional institutions to create work that is more reflective of ourselves and our communities.
Come join The MoAD Vanguard and a panel of black creatives who are breaking down conventional barriers and creating art that spans a variety of different fields and forms. Panel participants—a diverse set of creatives—will answer the question: What does it mean to be a black creative?
Amazing panelists will discuss their unique experience in the creative space, how their work benefits the communities they serve and what it’s like being a black creative in the current cultural climate.
Panel Participants:
- Terence Nance, Director/Filmmaker – An Oversimplification of Her Beauty
- Brittany Luse, Creator, For Colored Nerds (Podcast)
- Numa Perrier, Co-Founder, Black and Sexy TV
- William Rhodes, Artist and Co-Founder, 3.9 Art Collective
- Moderator: Elon James White, Founder and CEO of TWiB! Media, LLC: home of the award winning web series, This Week in Blackness and TWiB! Radio.
