Featured Artists

Afatasi

Afatasi is a San Francisco-born poet, singer, and musician. She began writing poetry and song from an early age. Afratasi is Polynesian and African American, so much of her art draws from the two cultures. For years, she did her music apprenticeship with various local jazz bands, Hip Hop collectives, and Funk groups in and around the Bay Area.

Her roots in the African American music traditions gave her the confidence to explore her Polynesian roots as well. Her love for these idioms led to the creation of a brand new sound she calls "Afro-Nesian Soul." Afatasi's soulful poetry and song will uplift your spirit.

Sami Miranda

Sami Miranda is a teacher, poet and visual artist. Originally from the Bronx, he has made his home in Washington, DC. He is the author of two collections of poetry, We Is and Departure. His artwork has been exhibited in DC, New York, Madrid and Puerto Rico.

He collaborates with musicians, visual artists and other poets, teaches creative writing and ethics in high school and curates a reading series at The American Poetry Museum.

This program is presented in conjunction with Third Thursdays in Yerba Buena
