About
THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. THANK YOU!
“One of the country’s best jazz singers” (KQED Arts), Bay Area-based vocalist Tiffany Austin performs Summer Soul — a celebration of the giants whose music expertly blended soul, funk, and swing, including Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, and more.
An L.A. native, Austin spent five years in Japan as a singer before moving to the East Bay in 2009 to study at the UC Berkeley School of Law. During her studies, the pull of music was too strong to ignore, and she earned a full scholarship to the California Jazz Conservatory (formerly known as the JazzSchool), where she worked extensively with renowned Brazilian pianist Marcos Silva.
Like many of the artists she honors with this performance, Austin brings a refreshing approach to the jazz tradition that blends elements of R&B, hip-hop, and the blues in equal measure, creating a fresh and invigorating hybrid that stirs the soul and moves the body. She has shared the stage with artists including Roy Ayers, John Handy, Marcus Shelby, Adam Theis, and Howard Wiley, and released a pair of acclaimed albums with 2015’s Nothing But Soul and 2018’s Unbroken.
